1st Birthday

Happy Birthday Carter!

I cannot believe that a year ago today, I had just delivered a 9 lb baby boy! You are such a cutie and break hearts daily with your winning smile. I spent way too much of this year worrying about you and the challenges you might face in the future, but of course, you are doing wonderfully surrounded by loving and supportive family, caregivers, and medical professionals.
Fun facts for the month-

1. You did it! You made it an entire month without an ear infection or oral antibiotic. Your left ear started to get infected, but we were able to clear it up with drops. Nice! It is so great to have you happy and healthy, with both ears in for an entire month. Let's hope the worst of the ear infections are over.

Food Update-
2. The switch to cow's milk is going great. We are no longer warming up the milk, and you don't seem to miss the bottle. Or at least you can't miss the bottles, since they aren't around. :)

Milestone of the Month-
3. Walking...You are officially a walker. Within a week of taking 4 to 5 steps, you were walking all over without hesitation. Here you are mid-stride-
Speech/ Hearing Update-
4. As noted earlier, we had a great hearing test last week. Since you're spending more time outdoors and are more mobile, we started using the buddy tether on your ears. We like them because if you pull an ear out, it doesn't go missing. I don't think you are a fan. For the most part, I don't think you notice, but if you find the tether, you immediately try to pull it off your shirt. You are still pulling yours ears out usually within seconds of removing your pilot hat. Miss Thalia likes to tell Mommy how many times you pull them out during the day while at school. Oh well...I think you'll have a little bit of a love-hate relationship with your ears, at least I know I would.

5. After weeks or maybe even months of you saying "ba" or "ah-ba" when you see a ball, I officially think "ball" is your 1st word, quickly followed by your 2nd and 3rd words - "uh-oh", more like "uh-uh" with inflection, and "ma-ma". I haven't really heard you say "ma-ma" in normal play, but you always whine "ma-ma-ma" when you want to be picked up while also pulling at my pants, leg, shirt, etc. You say "da-da" too, but not necessarily in connection to Daddy. No biggie...we'll respond to almost anything you call us.

Fun facts-
8 - # of ear molds in your 1st year

25- approximate number of scheduled doctor's appointments in your 1st (not including sick visits - add 10 or so more)
1 lb- the amount of grapes you eat per week (You love grapes!)

New this month-
We picked out your official mat for school. Maevy helped and we went with an olive green mat, decorated with dinosaurs. I like it!

Next up - Car-car's car-themed Birthday Party!

Love you bunches,

Mommy
