East Nashville Tornado

East Nashville was hit hard by a tornado last night.

Our house was fine, but we did our best to help the community by providing food and offering our house for childcare. I even took (5) 2nd graders to a free show downtown. It was devastating for so many, but it was great to see the East Nashville community show up and help!!

Cruising right along...

Car-car-

Christmas is around the corner, and we took some extra time to grab some cute pics of you in a Christmas outfit that I'm sure you are already too big for. You've been scooting and crawling around for a couple weeks now. You aren't that fast yet, but if there's something you want, you find a way to get it. The adorable thing is that you are doing this cute right foot out, then left knee crawl thing. School says they've seen you "crawl-crawl" around a little bit just this week.
Other big news this week, we received your genetic testing report in the mail. We were kind of expecting this, but the report revealed that you do not have the Connexin 26 mutation. The good news is that the likeliness of you passing on a dominant hearing loss gene to your children is pretty small, but it also means we still don't know the cause of your hearing loss. Daddy and I aren't too interested in getting to bottom of the cause; so we don't plan to do any further testing, but we'll fully support you when you are older if you want to order a more robust genetic test. Daddy and I are just happy you are developing just fine, and your special ears are just one more thing that makes you unique. :)
Stay tuned for Christmas pics and your 8 month birthday!

Love you,

Momma

Nicknames

Cartalicious-

Just kidding...I would never call you that. Your Dad and I have been playing around with some nicknames this past week. I guess because we kept your name secret from friends and family, we hadn't really taken the time to say it out loud a lot.

My go-to term of endearment for Maevy and now you is "pumpkin/punkin"- which I first heard from a good DC friend, Diana Funk. Daddy decided to use "sweet" when talking to Maevy. For a while he really wanted to name a baby boy, Crash, after a character in the baseball movie- Bull Durham. I couldn't really handle such a nutty name; so of course I said, "No". Your Dad is just waiting for you to "crash" into something; so he can start calling you Crash. (We'll see..)

You'll learn soon enough that we often shorten Maevy's name and call her Maev or Maevster. Her one school teacher in particular has gotten a lot more creative with nicknames and calls her Mavis Staples or I've heard her classmates call her Maevy Davey. She hates them both, and insists that her name is MAEVY MCGUINNESS TAYLOR!

Here are the nicknames we've tested out on your so far-  Cart, Cart-dawg, and Cartographer. You haven't responded negatively or positively to any. Keep us posted.

Love,

Mom

Baby Book Name

Hi Carter-

Daddy came up with the adorable baby book name. Since you're named after a Hall of Fame Catcher and since we're a family on-the-go, we thought it was fitting. We hope you like it, and I think your family and friends will love catching up with you here.

Love you-

Mom
