Jesus Flores!

Hey Buddy,

We're having an interesting time with you in these first couple of months of your life.  The guys at work and I joked when you were first born that it was nothing special because it happens thousands of times a day for every day of the thousands of years that humans have been on Earth.  Well, your birth was like most healthy babies but since then it's been more complicated than your mom and I are used to.  Anyways, in an attempt to "home test" how well you are hearing us we have been randomly clapping once very loud (Daddy is the master of this) and trying to speak to you without moving our mouths and just plain talking loud in your face.  Some of this works and some doesn't, but there has been one thing that consistently gets a smiling reaction from you.  I decided to recite the Nats players to you in a voice similar to the TV announcer listing off names for SNL (Don Pardo).  I went through some of the big names of the day - Ryan Zimmerman, Bryce Harper, Mike Morse, Ian Desmond, Danny Espinosa - and none of those got any real reaction.  But then I got to the catcher, Jesus Flores, and to that you smiled and showed us your gums.  I have been trying to find out what it is that made you smile, but to no avail.  The only thing I can figure is when you hear his name, you instinctively know he's a catcher and that catching is what you have been made to do, and that makes you happy.  Or something that a doctor will tell us about after you get the new ears in the next couple of weeks.  I can dream can't I?

So everyday as we hang out at the house after work Mommy and I will at some point belt out a "Jesus Flores!" and each time you flash that winning smile at us.  Heartwarming to a dad that wants one of his kids to enjoy the Nats with him.  Looking forward to listening and watching them with you as you get older.

Love,
Daddy
