15 Month Hearing Test

Car-car-

Hey cutie! Long time, no chat.
Unfortunately, we've had a crazy month filled with doctor's appointments. You started off the month catching a virus at school. You had a fever for 3 days, and were pretty pathetic lots of snuggling with mom and dad. You started to feel better for our July 4th vacation in Asheville, but ended the weekend with a left ear infection.

Here's your treatment log-
7/3 - Doctor's appt for virus (no treatment)
7/7-7/11 Left ear drainage; Ciprodex drops
7/13 - Doctor's appt- Oral antibotic- Amoxicillian
7/17 - Ear still draining; called doctor; New ear drop Rx
7/22 - Ear still draining; 2nd doctor's appt; 2 antibotic shots, and 2nd oral antibitotic Rx, drainage culture taken
7/24 - Hearing test; could only test Right ear due to drainage
7/27 - Ear still draining; Phone call from Doctor; culture lab results are back; 3rd oral antibiotic Rx (Bactrin)
7/29 - Ear finally looks pretty clear
7/30 - Dr. M lets us know that bacteria in the ear infection is MRSA; consults with your ENT regarding different ear drops. All are hopeful that the new drops and Bactrin antibiotic will clear it up. So far..so good.

Needless to say, you haven't been able to wear your left ear most of the month. Ms. Danielle was able to get a full hearing test on your right ear. Since there was no change, she's okay with waiting 3 months to hopefully get a bilateral test done.
Regardless of the health issues, your appetite and demeanor have been fine.

Some highlights from the past couple of months-

-  You finally got moved up to T-1 in the middle of June. You love being around your friends, and have been doing great with the transition. The second I come to pick you up. You start saying "bye-bye" to your teachers and friends.

- Since moving to T-1, we received 2 incident reports of you biting your friends. I don't think either has been completely malicious, but still not cool. No biting!

- Throwing - Oh toddlers...you are also really into throwing. Most things we are okay with, but food - not so much. You cock your arm all the way back and throw far! You still think "no" is hilarious; so we need to work on this. Last week you threw a  piece of hamburger in the butter, and threw cheerios all over my car while I was driving.

- You are still super friendly. It cracks us up daily when you openly say hi to strangers or animals while out and about. Just last weekend- you walked up to a kitty cat, said hi several times, then petted him.

- Despite only having 1 ear, I think your receptive and expressive language skills are moving along. You pick up new signed words very quickly and have added a few animal noises to your growing list of verbal words. Last week you properly identified cow, horse, pig, dog, duck, and cat from Ms. LeeAnn's row of toys. You are following lots of simple commands - blow kisses, say hi, say bye, give hugs, come inside, go outside, eat your broccoli, wash your hands, throw the ball, etc..

- New favorite songs this month - Bringing Home my Baby Bumble Bee, and Itsy Bitsty Spider. You still love Row, Row Your Boat. And I think you've been having fun with Miss Linda each week during music class.

- Group therapy is going okay. It's really a Parent-Infant class, and you are definitely not an infant. I'm going to chat with Ms. Geneiene, your speech therapist, about it in August and see if she thinks it's time well spent.

As always, Mom and Dad are crazy proud of you. Keep up the good work!

Love you,

Mom-ma (in a sing-songy voice)
