Hearing and Speech Update

Hey Cart-
(Walden Treehouse- Cheekwood - August 2014)

With your new modified speech and hearing appointments, time has been flying by.

First up- Speech

Ms. Geneine was pleased with your progress and just wants to see you back in a (3) months. We need to work on "p" sounds and reinforcing ending constants. I would say ending constants are your major "error" right now.  We spent a a good couple minutes working on "mint" last night and this morning. You like to just say "mih". Finally this morning you pronounced that "nt" and we made a huge deal about it. You didn't seem to care, and were just happy finally get the mint!

Some of our favorite phrases lately have been-
"What are you doing guys?"
"I go outside. Be right back."
"Oh my goodness"
"Mommy, look at me!"
"No, I want to do it!" "No, I can do it!"
"Please, Daddy can I have more raisins?"

Also you love talking on the phone and always ask to speak to whoever it is. It usually starts out okay, but then you get excited and start talking gibberish with real words mixed in about whatever it is you see in front of you. It's a lot "over there" "in there", etc...

You also like taking care of your baby and telling us about feeding her, wiping her nose, and changing her diaper. Lastly, you love putting your lovie in timeout. It's pretty cute- how you go through the whole routine -

You'll do this roll play- where you act like lovie bit you. Then you say-
"Ow!"
"No, lovie! No biting! You go in timeout! Two minutes"
(you walk away)
"Ok, give hug, lovie"

Next up- Hearing

No major changes in your audiogram . We attempted to the play the "hearing test" game instead of the normal conditioned play audiometry, but you grew bored with it pretty quickly. So instead we built a tower with pegs and you turned your head toward the tvs when you heard the tone.

Ms. Danielle still isn't ready to switch you to every 6 months; so we decided to meet in the middle again and we'll be back after the holidays in January. Ms. Danielle's schedule is changing; and she won't have any more 8am appointments. So she's referred us to her colleague. We are going to try out the new person and see how you do.

Otherwise - your hearing aids received their normal cleaning and tune up, and we ordered replacement ear mold since your molds are already looking a little too small.

As always, you are doing great and hope you keep up the great work! Love you lots!

-Mommy
